I hate when I hear people say they’re “an aspiring writer.” Because invariably, they’re wrong. They don’t want to be, they already are. If you write, you’re a writer. If you’ve written a book (even just a spotty and fractured first draft), you’re an author. The only way to be an aspiring writer is to never actually try. If you spend all your time thinking about it without ever putting pen to paper or fingers to keys… then you can say you’re aspiring and be completely truthful. Aspirations are about not doing something. Once you’ve started doing it, you’re no longer aspiring, you’ve passed that bar! There are two reasons I think people use this: 1- Most of the times I have heard this (when it wasn’t said directly to me) the statement was made to a traditionally published author, or someone on a convention panel. And I think it became the thing to say in this situation because it sounds better than “I want what you have.” Maybe people think that sort of statement will co
BLACK LIVES MATTER. I believe this to be an undeniable truth. BLACK LIVES MATTER. I, as a person raised within a sphere of privilege, misinformation, and willful descrimination, have to accept my complicitness in our country where people will hear those three words and feel the need to argue. BLACK LIVES MATTER. We need to fight anyone who says otherwise, in real life, and through fiction. Because fiction shapes world views in ways that are sometimes subtle, but can have lasting effects. BLACK LIVES MATTER. Performative activism isn’t enough. We have to force change in any and every way we can.Sign Petitions - https://blacklivesmatter.com/defundthepolice/ Donate what you can - https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ms_blm_homepage_2019 If you protest - https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#bail Black bookstores to support - https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/bookselling/article/83495-black-owned-bookstores-to-support-now.html
I’ve always had issues with eczema. Genetic lottery did me wrong on that one. But 99% of the time, it has exactly ZERO effect on my life. I know how to deal with it, and with the exception of patches that interfere with tattoo schedules, I don’t really think about it. It’s just a thing that exists. But last week, I spaced it, and used the wrong soap. And I’m currently paying the price. Hands--and as people who write as much as we do know this--are a pretty integral part of life, so when I had that violent reaction, it screwed a lot of things up. Dealing with the process of treating the issue on my hands is always a pain, more so when you’ve got deadlines and a massive pile of emails that need responding to. The real problem, however, lies in the fact that my brain was programed from an early age to feel like productivity equates to worth. I get a whole different kind of itchy when I sit still for long. So, I’m still over here looking a little like I’ve got leprosy, and I’m
Great post. I will be experiencing a few of these issues as well.. capitalone com login
