IWSG April

Last month, I  was sick for the beginning of the month. Super sick. Like, brain function was limited, and though I got in a bit of writing in the first few days, it was nothing worth saving. I honestly don’t remember posting last month’s IWSG post. It’s there, but by the time I went looking for it, we were into the third week of the month already.

But hey! I’m here this month. Go me!

When your writing life is a bit cloudy or filled with rain, what do you do to dig down and keep on writing?

Honestly? I take a break.

Sort of.

I try not to beat myself up over the lack of progress--not always an easy task--and I do what I can. I work on what my brain will allow me to at the time, whatever it is, no matter what is actually on my “schedule.”

And I plan.

I’m a big planner, so I make up plans for what I am going to do when I’m out of the funk.

I am anemic in waves. I’ll be fine, then not, be on iron supplements for a couple of months, be fine again, then not… and the cycle continues. Along with the usual symptoms of anemia, I’ve found that my writing suffers.

I could have all the time in the world, and I just don’t have the energy to do any of it. So maybe I should add to my “how I”: Start munching down the iron pills.

  1. Taking a break is the best thing to do. Doing something else gets our creativity flowing back again. Glad you're feeling better this month.

  2. I'm a planner too, and I found that when I break writing jobs down into small easily manageable tasks, it's much easier to keep up with it. I don't feel as overwhelmed. Take care and happy writing!
