October Wrap-Up

Words Written: 113,815-words in 26 days
(AVG 4,378-words/day)

This month feels like it was three years long. Maybe that’s because I got in as many words as I did? Maybe it’s because I spent it watching horror movies (some of which take a few days off my life every time I watch them)? Maybe it’s because the year is winding down and the weather’s finally getting cold and my bones are aching? Maybe it’s because I need my dosage upped and the time nonsense associated with my TLE has started to mess with me. Who knows.

The word count is as high as it is because I threw 70,000 of those words into a fast draft (it had OH SO MANY NOTES) in 9 days that is completely horrendous. I’ll be setting it aside while I work on other things next month so that I can come back to it in December and see how many of those words I’m actually going to keep, and then get a real draft around the 90k mark. (note: I’m not going to be able to do that draft in 9 days, history has proven this.)

Pages Edited: 247

I would love to say that this has been me getting through a book consistently, but as you can see from the graph… I have not.

I need to get the rest of the pages done and out of the way in the first week of this month. So… fingers crossed.

Books Read: Um… 1 ½?

This month was one of those ones where--because there was so much time put into writing and editing, I didn’t have time for any real reading. I’d guess the one and a half because I pulled up a lot of random books I’ve already read to remind myself of how someone else wrote a thing. When I do that, it’s largely about proportions and ratios. How much of a scene is dialog compared to descriptive narrative, how much time is put into the scene before the action really starts and how is it broken up. And then I stare at the ceiling for an hour to figure out how and what and if any of it applies to the scene I’m working on.

Books Purchased: 4

Phoenix Empress by K. Arsenault Rivera
The Descent of Monsters by JY Yang
Queen of Crows by Myke Cole
Vicious by V. E. Schwab

Please note above, I have not had the opportunity to start reading any of these, but I as soon as I’m able, I plan to devour Phoenix Empress.

And that is what October looked like for me. I hope I wasn’t the only one who was bitten by the productivity bug.

I don’t plan to do NaNoWriMo this year… but I am super excited for everyone who does! I’ve got some year end cleaning up to do, and I’ve only got 16 days I know I can get writing in this month, so… no NaNo for me.

Happy Writing!
