Goals Q1 2019 (And January’s Specifics)

If you were here on Wednesday for my IWSG post you’ll have seen that I don’t do resolutions.
They don’t work for me, I can’t set a hard and fast plan at the beginning of the year and stick to it. That’s just not how my brain is wired. And I’m 100% okay with it.
But I do like goals. I just like them on a smaller scale.
Things that can be tweaked and adjusted without any real “shame”.
Therefore, I am here to tell you my soft goals for the quarter, and my hard goals for the month.
In the first three months of this year, I’d like to get the following out of the way:

Writing: 220,000-words
Reading: 15 books
Editing: 3 books, plus some extra bits
Blogging: Back on a regular routine

Not going to lie. That 220k scares me a little, even though I wrote almost 100k more than that in the first quarter of 2013. My first quarter average for the last 6 years has only been about 171k.
I was recently accused of having too many books. A notion at which I scoffed and then ignored. But I do have too many books left unread. I need to pour those words into my brain!
Editing… ugh. The part where present Amy has to make up for past Amy’s sins. (Also the part where I write future Amy mean notes in the margins.)
And blogging… I’m here, right? I’ve shown up and I’m doing the thing!

January’s Goals… specifically

Writing
57,000-words

All of the writing goals for this quarter are based on beating the best count in my recorded counts for that month (unless the average is higher when I add in 2013, then the goal is to beat the average).
With that word count I should be able to finish a draft and get a good chunk of a second out of the way too. The one I’ll finish is a deviation from my normal SF in that it is a romance first, space opera second. I’m still not sure about it, but I think it’s worth finishing one way or another.

Reading
I posted up my GoodReads challenge. I’ve decided to do another 5/month goal. The plan is:

1 Research
1 SF Novel
1 “Whatever” Novel
and
2 Graphic Novels

This time around, I plan on reading:
Cosmos by Carl Sagan
Outriders by Jay Posey
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Erathune Vol 1 by Sebastian Jones, Darrell May, Sheldon Mitchel, and Joshua Cozine
Valerian: The Complete Collection Vol 1 by Pierre Christin, and Jean-Claude Mezieres
Editing
One book… and some bits and pieces
.

At the moment, my hope is to do a full edit on one book a month. Some months that is definitely going to be easier than others. Some months, I’m definitely going to have to get through two.
But this month, I’ll be working on a 4th? revision of a book that’s been in the work for a while (hence my not remembering which number it is), and some bits and pieces of other things.
The bits and pieces are those edits where I’m just running through to do my madlib fill for those points where past Amy decided to use the placeholder of (Name) or (Dude) or (NameThisPlace). She’s a real winner some times. Or there ones where I know a specific scene isn’t working in a book that isn’t finished and I can’t stand it, so I need to do a quick slash and burn to deal with the ick.

Blogging
3 Posts a week.

I’ll be honest, I’m preposting a lot right now (This one included. I wrote it at the beginning of December). Life is a weird and wonderful rollercoaster and I see a lot of changes coming at the beginning of this year, and I’m a little worried I won’t be able to even think by the end of the day. So I’ll get in the blogging time when I’ve got it and put things wherever I please. I think I’ll be happier for it.
